Legacy – Planetshakers [Review]

“Legacy” is a CD+DVD release from Planetshakers with all the songs from their recent EPs “Legacy Part 1: Alive Again” and “Legacy Part 2: Passion EPs” and four more songs recorded live in Melbourne. This release also includes a digital deluxe version and a songbook.

If that’s not enough for Plantetshakers fans to rejoice, the band is also releasing a Spanish-language version of the album, “Legado”, in November. If you remember, their previous Spanish project “Sé Quién Eres Tú” was nominated for “Spanish Language Album Of The Year” at the Dove awards.

And a US tour is also in the works as the ministry celebrates its 20th anniversary, which I’d say is a grand milestone in itself. Looking back, Senior Pastor Russell Evans talks about Planteshakers’ legacy saying, “If people get in the presence of God and they encounter Him, He can give them a dream for their life,” he says. “Then, out of that, they go and change their world.”

“Legacy”—About the Songs

There are 12 songs here recorded live in the recent Planetshakers conferences in Manila, Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur.

“Alive Again” opens the album celebrating the love and goodness of God with up-tempo grooves and some really cool bass work. “Through It All” and “Prophecy” follow continuing the fast-paced music.

“Prophecy” in particular surprised me lyrically. It sings about stepping out to speak the Lord’s Word in the prophetic—now there’s a theme that’s not sung about as often as it should be!

The word of the Lord in my mouth
To bring about the change
Full of Your power, I step out
Declare aloud Your praise

Amen. Would expect this one to be playing on repeat mode!

“We Speak Life” is a slower tempo song that continues the prophetic lyrics with an anthemic chorus declaring the faithfulness and power of our God. Fell in love with this one immediately! Apart from being a great song with excellent arrangements, the worship leader does a fabulous job leading the song! Here’s the video if you want to check it out now:

“Be My Vision” and “Here’s My Life” carry on the good work with more catchy choruses singing about surrendering our lives and keeping Jesus the centre of our lives.

“You call me beautiful” affirms who we are in Christ and helps us remember how God looks at us. Lyrically, one of the best songs on this album—the bridge especially is a gem.

My sin and shame have been outweighed
By endless love and perfect grace
I hear Your voice above the waves
You call me beautiful

My innocence has been restored
No fear can hold me anymore
For You are mine and I am Yours
Father, You’re beautiful

“Passion” and “Drawing Closer” bring back the fast-paced songs before closing out with 3 more slow-tempo songs, “A Love I Know”, “All On The Altar” and “You Are Here”.

Thoughts about the album

The sound of the project is sure to keep Plantshakers fans hooked—it’s loud, alive, big and quite joyful to listen to.

Best fast song: “Prophecy”. Best slow song: “We Speak Life”. Other standout songs are “You call me beautiful”, “Be My Vision” and “Here’s My Life”.

All in all, I believe “Legacy” is one of Planetshakers’ best albums, at least since their “Outback Worship Sessions” which made me join their legion of fans.

Go get it, there are some great songs here to add to your playlists (and set-lists if you’re a worship leader).
