The Whole Landscape – Jared Anderson [EP Review]

You’d know Jared Anderson as a worship leader and songwriter at New Life Church. Or, as a former founding member of Desperation Band. And, if you’re connected to the universe of contemporary worship songs, pretty sure you’ve enjoyed “Great I Am,” “Amazed”, and “Rescue” among his other songs. So, it’s not like he needs an introduction.

Recently, Anderson signed up with Franklin, Tennessee’s Rixon Entertainment Group for management representation. This EP, ‘The Whole Landscape’ is his first project with Rixon.

Produced by the prolific Michael Rossback (Paul Baloche, Michel Gungor Band), this EP includes co-writes with Matt Armstrong, Ed Cash, Sarah Reeves, Anthony Skinner, Andrew Bergthold, and Christopher Steven Lockwood.

In Jared’s own words, he’s tried to weave the themes of “healing tied directly to God’s love and kindness” throughout this EP. “And ‘The Whole Landscape’ is about singing the work of healing… because God wants to cover, heal and redeem every moment, every missed opportunity, all of creation with His presence.”

Jared will begin touring with these songs and more with worship concerts in Pennsylvania on Oct 25 and 27.

“The Whole Landscape”—About the Songs

This is a 5-song EP focusing a lot on God’s love and kindness.

The EP opens with the title track—a catchy and upbeat praise song declaring God’s love, constancy, and greatness.

“Heaven stands up” is an anthemic reminder of how God continues to move through us… in power. If only we remember, trust and allow ourselves to be His willing instruments. If we choose to show up, God will too… amen. Loved the theme and lyrics on this one!

The lights they come on
The chains they fall off
Slaves they walk out singing
When I show up, heaven shows up
When I stand up, heaven stands up

“Kindness” beautifully reflects on how easily we tend to forget God’s loving kindness with a super simple chorus.

“Work of Art” has a psalmic tone in the way its lyrics describe how God keeps working on us, continually fixing and transforming us into His masterpieces.

Alive in every color
So wild to uncover
The mysteries inside your mind

Your picture’s on our faces
Though sin tries to erase it
Darkness cannot hide the light

The EP ends with “Irresistible”, a fast-tempo declaration of how God awakens dead souls to a life of fullness and security. Should work nicely in setlists for Baptism!

Thoughts about the EP

If you’ve liked Jared’s songs in the past, “The Whole Landscape” easily belongs in your worship music collection.

Musically, it falls right into the pop-rock, contemporary worship space.

With songs that are lyrically truthful, God-focused, and easy to learn and sing, this is an EP you’d like to check out.
